Description
“In grembo” is a tribute to the spiritual strength of Indigenous women of the Amazon, embodied by Helena Gualinga a young woman of the Sarayaku people. Embraced by water like a sacred mantle, Helena surrenders to the river in a state of serenity and communion. The painting evokes water as mother, memory, and spirit, following Indigenous cosmologies in which rivers are living beings inhabited by unseen guardians.
This work is part of the series Amazonia– Indigenous Stories, born from an artistic exploration of Amazonian Indigenous cosmologies. In particular, I investigate the sacred bond between women and water, understood as a spiritual, political, and identity-based connection.
Through this series, I seek to restore voice and visual dignity to the female figures who, today, stand at the forefront of defending the forest, human rights, and life itself. My painting aims to be a gesture of alliance and deep listening.
