Flor de Luna, Moon Flower is dedicated to Selenicereus wittii, a rare epiphytic cactus from the Brazilian Amazon, closely connected to the flooded igapó forests: fragile environments suspended between water, roots and filtered light.
This nocturnal flower blooms for only a few hours, relying on a very precise natural balance.
Its beauty is not merely botanical: it is a vulnerable, almost secret presence, threatened by the transformation of its habitat, by dams and by changes in rainfall patterns.
In the painting, the flower emerges from the density of the forest like a lunar apparition. Its pale petals open at the centre of the canvas, while the surrounding vegetation both protects it and reveals a living, complex world exposed to loss.
