This painting was inspired by a brilliant photographic montage I found on the net (@3joko). While I was painting I was thinking about a recent news that struck me: four children arrived in Trieste in a freight train, coming from Syria, four little brothers from 4 to 10 years old, who left with their pregnant mother… despair knows no obstacles. They slept using jackets as a bed on the clay hills, breathing powder (fortunately compacted by sub-zero temperatures) for three days and three nights. Frightened, frozen, anxious. When I was painting, I couldn’t stop thinking about it… Year 2020, desperate wagons fleeing a homeland that doesn’t want them and a homeland that doesn’t welcome them and I was ashamed…
